Just seems right tonight...

Your message is clear
you sound so sincere
your intentions are good
The forgiveness of sin
life without end
I’d believe it if I could
But I’ve watched from afar
and I’ve seen how you are
with the people you’re around
And I don’t see a trace of the love
and the grace you talk so much about

If you want to lead me to Jesus
you’d better find a better way
‘Cause your life is speaking so loud
I can’t even hear a word you say

If winning the duel is your golden rule
no matter the cost
Then you may win the day
but the price you pay
is the greater war that’s lost
You would not believe how different it seems
from the outside looking in
But the louder you shout
the more I tune out
and the less I am convinced

If you want to lead me to Jesus
you’d better find a better way
'Cause your life is speaking so loud
I can’t even hear a word you say
I want to believe
but I am going to need you to work with me here
Work with me here
Work with me here

If you want to lead me to Jesus
you’d better find a better way
‘Cause your life is speaking so loud
I can’t even hear a word
If you want to lead me to Jesus
you’d better find a better way
‘Cause your life is speaking so loud
I can’t even hear a word you say

Hear a word you say
Hear a word you say

  1. It's a song by a guy named Gordon Levy. Never heard it but like the lyrics!

  2. our western focus on intellectualism has hamstrung the power of the Church, for we have reduced a life of relationship with Jesus to a set of doctines to "know" and argue about. Dogma is a starting point, at best, not a final destination. The teaching of the Bible, especially the words of Jesus are easily understood when we focus on 'what is He asking me to believe, to become, and behave?' Levy's lyrics gently remind me to love others to Love.

  3. Phil - I posted this after another one of those never ending theological debates at the place we normally "see" each other.
I'm just sick of people saying "you can't do this cause you're female, you can't do that cause you're gay, you're not allowed here cause you're a democrat, you don't fit in here cause you're catholic...."
I'm sick of it and I just can't see Jesus doing that to people. He would have been just hanging out eating pizza with people. (ok, maybe not, but that's what I like to think).
The only people he didn't tolerate were the pompous ones. The ones that told everyone else how they didn't have it "right".
I grew up in the US church and I've always thought the way we did church in America was "right" just like the way we dress is "right" and the way we cut out hair is "right"...
But, living overseas really opened up my eyes to the arrogance we have about ourselves in this country and certainly the arrogance we have about ourselves in the church.
Frustrating to watch the "theological debate society" as Gren calls it, going round and round, over and over just to prove who they can next keep "out" for not being "right".
