In the Feature Category, the prize went to Renee C. Boyer for her series of black & white photos of a woman helping her 10 year old son in his unsuccessful battle against cancer. They are poignant photos of the love and commitment of family. Deeply personal, technically beautiful and emotionally intimate. You can see the images here:
This year, both prizes were awarded to photographers who showed the world the power of a woman fighting for what she loves.
Congratulations to both photographers!!
what a dramatic photo, I can see why it was selected. Furthermore, on a symbolic level, it represents women from all walks of life, everywhere, in any era standing for their children, a cause, or themselves. How sad our fallen world continues to inflict, unabated, sorrows upon each other. Lord, have mercy on us & provoke us to grace.
ReplyDeletePhilip,
ReplyDeleteDid you check out the photos of the mom and her son? Those are beautiful as well. They're pretty emotional which is why I just posted a link instead of the actual images, but they are worth having a look at as well.
Let me know what you think if you look at them.
I hadn't looked at the link yet, but did at your urging. Yes, amazing. Do you think he knows something that many are missing? A powerful image.
ReplyDeleteWell, hadn't really thought about it. It just struck me how brave and generous this family was to allow someone such an intimate look into their lives like this.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, kids are alot more wise than adults give them credit for so I wouldn't doubt that he knew stuff we don't even think about.
There's just such a beautiful intimacy and trust in these photos you know?
